Thai Steamboat For My Friends!

This is absolutely fabulous, amazing and DELICIOUS dish that I've been making for years now. I just LOVE it. I got the pot on my birthday last year. I used regular pots before so don't worry, if you don't own one of those. The most important is the soup you use and fresh meats and vegetables. It's entirely up to you what ingredients you decide to placed into the pot. Have anything, as long as you are having a nice company of friends and maybe some beer to cool down the spiciness of CURRY! Even though this Chinese fondue or steamboat originates in Mongolia I always make Thai version of it. Just love Thai Red Chicken soup too much :)

  1. It is kinda simple, when you have your soups cooked, you just let them simmer/boil and place some goodies into them. Then wait till everything is cooked.
“Some like to place items into the hot pot at a relaxed, leisurely pace, enjoying the cooking process, while others prefer to throw everything in at once and wait for the hotpot to return to a boil. Occasionally due to evaporation the boiled water needs to be refilled, usually the stew is strong and zesty enough to not add more condiments to spice it up”.

I use Thai Red Chicken Soup and Sweet & Sour Tom Yam Soup.

Ingredients For Thai Red Chicken Soup:

    1 onion, chopped
    3 garlic cloves
    Bunch of lemon grass
    2tbsp red curry paste
    3tbsp fish soup
    1 can coconut milk
Chicken broth or stock cube is good to use as well

Heat oil in heavy large saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion, chopped garlic, curry paste, stir until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add 1l of water, chicken cube, about 4 lemon grass stalks, coconut milk and fish sauce, bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. I don’t usually use recipe for the soup at all, you might need more water or more curry paste, depending on how spicy you’d like your soup to be.

Sweet & Sour Tom Yam Soup:

This one is very easy! You’ll need 2 – 3 tbsp of Tom Yam Khai paste, about 10 lime leaves, 3 – 4 tbsp of fish sauce, about 1.5 l of water and salt to taste. Put all the ingredients to a bigger pot and bring to boil. It takes about 10 – 20 minutes until it’s all done. This is a simple version of Thom Yam Soup, which is ideal for Steamboat.

    Common Ingredients:
    Soba Noodles
    Glass Noodles
    Bak Choi
    Hard Boiled Eggs
    Spring Onions
    Bean Sprouts

  2. I made Steamboat yesterday and I realised that I totally forgot to mention, that for Tom Yam Soup you should use sugar!!
